GATEWAY TO THE BEARA PENINSULA

TUOSIST is a Parish in the south of County Kerry, Ireland.  The scenery of this rural area is a spectacular mix of sea, mountains and lakes.

The parish runs along the South Coast of the Kenmare Bay for 37km from the outskirts of Kenmare to the border with County Cork near Ardgroom.  The Caha Mountains in the centre of the Beara Peninsula mark its southern boundary and the boundary with County Cork. This website aims to provide a resource to research deeper into the rich history of the land and its people.

The area’s dramatic scenery reflects the geology and flora and fauna flourish in its mild Atlantic climate.  The archaeology reveals its human history from as far back as 4500-4000BC through the bronze age to the present day.   The community linked to the parish stretches across the world to where Tuosist people have emigrated to and from where people have come from to settle here.

The strong community in the area is reflected in the long running annual Newsletter and various publications over the years.  These are available to purchase or download from our shop .
